About Matt Hennessy

Hey, I'm Matt. I'm a self-taught designer and developer originally from the foothills of Northern California. I'm also a photographer, carpenter, a skier... the list goes on and on. In short, I like making things, meeting people, and exploring everything that life has to offer. Some would say I'm adventurous, but I prefer curious. I love to learn and immerse myself in new projects. It's the primary force that drives me.

This curiosity is also what eventually led me out of California and drove me to travel the world for a couple years. While abroad, I doubled down on my design and development work and started doing my first freelance projects. I traveled like this for a few years until I began to grow tired of the constant change and found myself craving a slower, steadier pace of life — to build a home, and a community alongside it.

What pulled me to the Pacific Northwest was simple: mountains, and the greenery I fell in love with in the tropics. It felt like home immediately. Towns full of people who'd rather be outside, who work with their hands, and who care about their community. This was a great change of pace after moving from country to country each month for years.

After settling here, I decided to start Built for Pros, a complete digital marketing firm tailored to contractors and home service businesses. Given that I have years in the trades as well as 5+ years of design, development, and marketing work building brands for other businesses, this felt like a natural fit for me and has been steadily growing since. If I'm not working behind the computer, I'm deep in some woodworking project or restoring vehicles. I enjoy any endeavor that allows me to bring a rough idea to life and turn it into a finished product; I find it extremely satisfying.

And finally, when I'm not working, I'm usually on a mountain — skiing in the winter, mountain biking when the trails dry out — or exploring backroads and hunting down remote hot springs. On the slower days, a chill Sunday morning with coffee at the river is just about perfect. ☕️
